Pernigotti was founded in 1860 by Stefano Pernigotti, in the Piedmont town of Novi Ligure. As a producer of white hard Torrone (nougat bars), the Pernigotti brand established itself in Italy as a National Market leader. In 1882, Italian King Umberto I recognized Pernigotti for the high quality of its products.
Through the years, Pernigotti has developed a very high core competence in chocolate manufacturing, in line with the strong cocoa-processing tradition of the Piedmont region. Pernigotti chocolates and pralines, like the Gianduiotti, are an essential component of the Pernigotti brand identity.
Pernigotti was solely a family-owned business until 1994, when the company merged with the Averna group. The Averna group is dedicated to upholding Pernigotti's values and management style. Although Pernigotti has grown with technological advances in the industry, it stays true to its original recipes, securing the best of both worlds for the modern consumer.
As an Italian company, Pernigotti pursues and promotes the Italian presence in art and cultural development, specifically in the NIAF (National Italian American Foundation) and in the sponsorship of the Frick Collection Photo Archive Digitization.
